GO FOR THE GOLD!

The Tradition Continues...

The Black Gold Program is touted as one of the country's Premier Quarter Horse Race Programs. Since the program's inception in 1979, over 200 Stallions have participated. The program was acquired by Blue Ribbon Downs, Sallisaw, Oklahoma, in 1991.

The Racing Program, which has always been run at Blue Ribbon Downs, has paid out over $17 MILLION to horsemen nationwide in purses over the years. In addition to the healthy Qualifying Division races and Championship Finals purses, another $30,000 (Est.) is paid in Stallion Awards annually.

Ten to twelve new Stallions are accepted into the program each year . The 2000 Program boasts three Qualifying Distance races run at 300, 330 and 350 yards. Each of those races paid a Finals purse of $38,676, plus a 5% award to the Stallions who sire the qualifying finalists of the 400 yard, $25,000 Added Money Championship Futurity.

The Program continues to grow because it is affordable for both the Stallion owner and the nominator of the offspring. A nominal fee of $2,500 enrolls a Stallion for LIFE, and the entire Futurity Program race payment is only $800, giving horseman three chances to qualify for the Championship at three different distances.

And it doesn't stop there! The 3-year-old progeny of the Black Gold Participating Stallions are eligible to nominate to the 440 yard Black Gold Derby with $10,000 Added Money. Any 3-year-old quarter horse sired by a Black Gold Stallion is eligible for nomination, without having nominated to the Futurity during the two-year-old year.

This racing series has been and is a vital component in keeping world-class Quarter Horses in Oklahoma. It's a tradition to GO FOR THE GOLD at Blue Ribbon Downs!
