SENSATIONAL AFFAIR

December 5, 1998

Sensational Affair, owned and trained by Frank & Marilyn Fazekas, won the $92,869 RG3 1998 Black Gold Futurity Championship after posting the fastest qualifying time for the 400 yard race.

Jockey Randy Wilson brought the filly across the finish line. The BEHOLD A SENSATION filly qualified for the Championship by winning the 330 yard qualifying division by 1 1/2 lengths on ...... The winning slot paid the Fazekas' $44,113 as SENSATIONAL AFFAIR won by a neck in the time of :20.15.

 

Second place finisher was DANCING VALENTI (Slice Of Life-One More Martini) leased by Roger Scruggs and trained by Wayne Phillips; ridden by J.R. Hobbie. Third place went to TAKIES ROYAL FLUSH (Royal Quick Dash-Flameing Susie) owned and trained by Jim Brooks and ridden by Luis Zayas.

5TH PLACE: SWEET EASY DASH (Royal Quick Dash-Venice). Owned by Southern Rose Ranch and traind by Donnie Strickland; ridden by Jerry Vaughan.

6TH PLACE: CISCO DINERO (Marthas Six Moons-Asia Brown). Owned by Neal Lackey and trained by Chuck Nunn; ridden by Roy Brooks.

7TH PLACE: MOON ON THE HORIZONE (Marthas Six Moons-Zevi Queen). Owned and trained by Wayne Garner; ridden by Buster Jones.

8TH PLACE: CASHS OKIE BOW (Takin On The Cash-Special Mark). Owned by Delores Hill and trained by Stacy Charette; ridden by David Brown.

9TH PLACE: DALTS PISTOL (Mr Eye Opener-Little Wise Native). Owned by Don Anthony & Larry Thompson and trained by Samuel Valdivia; ridden by Doug Brinlee.

10TH PLACE: THE GAMBLIN FOOL (Raise The Gamble-Winnie The Pie). Owned and trained by Don Drake; ridden by Mike Harvell.

 

1998 Black Gold Derby Winner BETTORS RASCAL

Trainer Rex Brooks claimed yet a second Black Gold win with BETTORS RASCAL, 1997 Black Gold Futurity winner, who crossed the wire in a photo finish in the $45,807 RG3 Black Gold Derby on December 5, 1998.

J.R. Hobbie was aboard the Raise A Rascal (TB) filly in the 440 yard Derby. Winning by a nose brought owner Tom Bader the winner's share of $22,903.

The photo finish left 2nd place honors to HAULIN FAME (Dashing Cleat-Game Of Fame), owned by Opal Leonard and trained by Ray Tachett; ridden by Brian Green. A dead-heat for third was split by PLATINUM SEAL (Dashing Cleat-Lawton Arrives), owned by Charles Rader and trained by Rex Brooks; ridden by Mike Frederick and SHES AN EYE OPENER (Mr Eye Opener-Skipping North), owned by Robin Akers and Deb Newenhouse, trained by Randy Newenhouse and ridden by Debbie Freeman.

The remaining order of finish was:

4TH PLACE: FASTASASPEEDN BULLET (Bully Bullion-Make Mine Easy) owned by Deb Newenhous and trained by Randy Newenhouse; ridden by Jerry Vaughan.

5TH PLACE: EFFORTS DASH (Royal Quick Dash-Efforts Bopper) owned and trained by J.D. Anderson; ridden by Roy Brooks.

6TH PLACE: FIRST DOWN BULLY (Bully Bullion-Dash For Alexa) owned by Newcomb Cattle Company and trained by Rex Brooks; ridden by David Brown.

7TH PLACE: IMAGE COUNT (Image Of Greatness-Countess Maggie Pac) owned by Lois Cain and trained by Bill Weger; ridden by Rodger Smith.

8TH PLACE: GET IT DOUBLE (Double Time Dash-Hempen Get It) owned by Allice Castka and trained by Wendel Ouderkirk; ridden by Mike Harvell.

9TH PLACE: MISS COOKIE BUGS TWO (Special Effort-Miss Cookie Bugs) did not finish.

 

1998 Black Gold Maturity Winner DIANETOMEETCHA

December 6, 1998, marked the final running of the Black Gold Maturity. The

$20,675, 440 yard race

 

for four-year-old and older finale was captured by five-year-old filly DIANETOMEETCHA (Special Show-Jimmis Josey Jet), ridden by jockey Anthony Castleman.

The filly won the race by a head in the time of :22.17 for trainer Rex Brooks and owner International Racing Stables and the winner's share of $10,338.

Second place went to BULLY BREW (Bully Bullion-Frogiewentacourtin), owned by Sharon and Keith Renfrom and Mark Jones, trained by Carl White; ridden by Rodger Smith. Third place went to RONAS STAR (Ronas Ryon-Sheza Happy Girl), owned by Eugene Hill and trained by Chuck Moore; ridden by Brian Green.

4TH PLACE: MR GROGAN (Takin On The Cash-Urban Girl) owned by Kennedy Farms and trained by Mark Kreutziger; ridden by Randy Wilson.
